Presenting Creative
October 29, 2010
Ideas are the main part of an agency and what keeps it fresh with creativity. Ideas have to be treated like a fragile flower, well taken care of and sold even better. You cant expect your client to fully pick up the importance of you idea and appreciate it as much as you do. If you want to get your client to appreciate your ideas as much possible then all of those amazing ideas should be well presented in person thorough, well prepared presentation where your client can see all of their options clearly. The Creative Team which consists of a copy writer and an art director led by a creative director, starts to develop ideas for the client. Plan your presentation with detail and persuasion. Remember, you want you client to love this idea as much as you do and if you’re not fully into it they wont be either. Consider who is a better speaker to pitch the idea perfectly. also think about how the ideas should be presented, maybe in a humorous way or maybe its a more serious matter. Try to get someone to check the room the presentation is going to be in and check if there is a TV to connect a computer for the power point and of it is all working properly, or maybe check if you have everything in place for you client to just walk into a ready presentation. Try to avoid boring bullets and too much writing. Put the main points on the bullets and explain the rest yourself, it makes you look more prepared and secure of what you are trying to sell. Pitching your ideas can be difficult from time to time but following these easy tips will make it a breeze… GOOD LUCK!
Howard Who?
October 27, 2010

Howard Grossage was an advertising genius whose wisdom just beginning to be understood by agencies and marketing experts after forty years of his death. He was a man living in a completely different era way ahead of everyone else. Grossage was a quintessential west coast adman who came up with the concept of “interactive” advertising way before it crossed anyone else’s mind or moreover the internet, understood the concept of one-to-one marketing before it was called that and recognized the value of engaging the consumer in a dialog which would be understood today to be customer generated marketing or presaging word-of-mouth. He owned a small agency of about 12 people, Freeman, Mander & Grossage, in San Francisco between 1950 and 1960. Grossage never really made a big amount of money off of the ad business he co-owned. Howard was more of an environmentalist but back then no one really knew what that term meant. He ran serial ads a that stopped in mid-sentence and picked up in the next ad a week later to advertise Irish Whiskey. If you read up on some techniques that grossage thought of and used often you might just be able to bring your agency to the top.
Overestimating?
October 20, 2010
It can be a problem when your guesstimates turn into estimates and then they turn into a hard and fast quote. Then your vendor quotes run over budget and invoices keep coming in along with different purchase orders from the agency are never written. Billing more than you estimated makes the matters worse and often causes a bad relationship between you and your clients. This huge problem usually occurs when a client asks an innocent question like how much the ad costs, which is when you say a lower price than the actual price. It would be easier if you use a percentage of the media budget. Also remember to makes sure that you let there be adequate time for developing a real estimate. Try not to get too caught up in all of the new and different creative that when it comes to the estimate you just think of the right price and “wing it.” Make a note of every change the from the moment the document is sold. Try to write everything down so that you have a paper trail. The only way to get that money is to use the documentation. You make revised estimates according to the changes that come in. Try for all of the vendors you are using bill you ASAP. The smaller the vendor the more careless the billing and there’s nothing that gets the client more mad than a bill for something they thought was done and ready. If you dont have documentation make sure your invoice never goes over your estimate. Poorly executed timekeeping like late or sloppy time sheets are the cause to not being able to control your own internal costs which makes you look very foolish to your client. These guidelines should get you in line and keep your agency in check along with keeping you clients happy.
Marketing and Mobility
October 19, 2010
Normally marketers try to sell you their product by any way means but especially though your television and the things you read on the internet. Now the easiest and fastest way to get the anyones attention of through their cell phone. Anything from colorful, fun, loud to serious but alerting text messages, or a free app download for your company on their phones. Most people are active mobile media users and more people have a cell phone than a regular landline. Wireless internet access is very important to many people and a majority of the news, gossip and latest tech is seen though them as well. Marketers have to adapt to their followers and clients needs, this might just be the right way to do it. Mobile devices are the ultimate in one-on-one communications, but create a huge challenge for creatives and marketers. 40% of brands have already started their own text message campaigns and a large part of them have been multimedia. Mobile reach and click-through are easily measurable and often impressive. Get out there on mobile marketing, it might just boost your business.
Disconnected….
October 5, 2010
Public relations firms, marketing consultants, and interactive specialists all have the inside line to top level marketing executives. That crowd can be pretty risky and vicious so be prepared to fight it out to gain clients’ respect. Clients have a lot less confidence in the agencies they have chosen for their business and the agency’s ability to get their company to the new marketing era. Agency executives say that their contributions drive their clients marketing success but only 63% of marketers agree with that statement. Fixing the disconnection is no as hard as it seems. Agencies who fail to adapt to new marketing and media strategies will quickly loose many clients and business opportunities with possible future clients. Agencies that have the wanted new marketing skills and expertise need to learn how to communicate better with their clients. Some of the disconnection that agencies have with their clients is that they dont present their capabilities correctly and the their full potential. Clients dont realize their agencies full potential and dont think that they can fulfill their wants and needs. Most of the time when the agency doesn’t show their clients what they can do to their full potential the client assumes that the agency cant provide and leaves. This disconnection is a threat that cannot go unanswered. If this is happening to your agency then you need to get on your clients wave length and make sure you signal to them that you are their ideal strategic partner for more then traditional advertising.
What’s your Strength?….
September 28, 2010
Basically… What does your agency have to offer clients that others dont? What Kind of work do clients expect to see from you, and can you take on the project that they want and need? Some questions you should ask yourself are, “is our agency strong enough to be the agency that prospects and current clients will want to do business with next year or the following or maybe even five years down the road?” “Do the actual clients think we are strong enough for them?” One thing is for sure, you have to see and explore the strengths that your agency has and then invest on some that you dont have. See what your agency does the best, for example, is it the creative? or maybe its the unique way of looking at your job in general? it can also be the celebrity star service you treat your clients with. You can also ask yourself what ability does your agency have that maybe you are not currently doing? The way you inform clients and prospects about the skills you agency offers that they are not currently using is also important. You should always remind the client what you have to offer especially if its something new. Once you have figured out your strengths and the ones you have yet to develop, Express (Build your image with current and potential clients), Exploit (Put a name to your strengths, brand them, the strengths become your agency) and Extend them (Open a new location, hire more people and expand your agency).
